2011 Three Year Comparative Report
A total of 1,249 physicians from all 50 states and the District of Columbia participated in the 2010 Daniel Stern & Associates Emergency Medicine Compensation and Benefit Surveys this year. We conduct two national surveys, one for physicians in non-academic positions and one for physicians working in academic settings.
Participants in the both surveys are divided into categories by job title (staff or director). In the non-academic survey, participants are categorized by employment status (employee, partner, independent contractor). In the academic survey, respondents are categorized by academic rank in some sections. All figures in both surveys are reported are at the 10th, 25th, 50th percentile, 75th and 90th percentile. The surveys define total compensation as base compensation, plus all additional income earned by moonlighting, working additional hours for employers, stipends, bonuses, profit sharing, RVUs, and any other income from the practice of Emergency Medicine. The total compensation figure is the amount of income earned in calendar year 2009 or in the case of academic physicians from July 2009 until June 2010. The dollar amounts for any employee benefits of any type including but not limited to insurance or pension contributions, etc. are not included in any of these figures representing total compensation.
