Heave Ho
Although it is not uncommon for clinicians to dismiss pediatric vomiting as a simple “stomach bug,” this symptom can reflect a diverse array of illnesses, from benign to severe. It is incumbent upon the emergency physician to discern the why of this complex process. Clinicians can mitigate the risk of missing a non-gastrointestinal cause of this seemingly routine presentation by casting a wide diagnostic net.

Short Supply
By matching patient needs with appropriate sedation and monitoring strategies, emergency physicians are able to perform urgent life- and limb-saving procedures with a high degree of safety. In much of the world, however, medications and monitoring tools common in resource-rich environments are either scarce or completely unavailable. Clinicians must be able to adapt their skills to accommodate patients in remote and resource-limited settings.
